William Proctor moved his family to KY. frontier in the late 1700's. His son's Catlet and Muhlenburg and their Sandusky sister wives moved to Putnam Co. IN. in the 1820's. Hi,
We are descendants of John M Shepherd and Mary Collier Shepherd. We were interested to find your website. We know that in 1846 John M left Mary in Big Stone Gap VA, and moved to Kentucky where he married Eve Watson who was also from Scott Co VA. We know Mary was still alive in 1850. John M had a second family with Eve and at the death of a child in about 1860, whose death is recorded in Bath Co KY, we have not been able to find John M or Eve after that event. Our family legend was that John M died in Sharpsburg KY, but we have never been able to find any source of him in any of the local cemeteries. His son Isaac Newton Sheppard, who is my great grandfather, moved from KY to IL in about 1865, but he left no record of where his father had been later in life, or where he was buried. We are very interested in finding out where John M Shepherd was buried, and where his father Sampson Shepherd was buried. Isaac Newton S changed the spelling of the surname from Shepherd to Sheppard sometime around 1860 when he was living in Lexington KY.

I am looking for any additional information on Lena Proctor. I have written the biography of her son Cecil W. Standefer (sometimes spelled Standifer). Lena was married to Henry Clay Standefer on August 18, 1897 in Hamilton, TEXAS. Cecil was born on September 30, 1898. Lena died on March 9, 1899 supposedly of a heart attack.

I'm a direct descendant of Reuben Proctor who was lynched in 1877. His son George Proctor was my great grandfather. My grandmother, Sarah Helen Proctor Brown, always told a story of her grandfather being killed in some sort of shootout when her father was a child, and of him being shipped off to live with relatives afterward. I'm thrilled to read the actual story! Any other information on the subject would be appreciated. It's truly fascinating!

My line goes back to Mahala Crow and John Rustin. They had a daughter named Patience Rustin who married Moses Proctor the first two settlers at Hazel Creek. Their first son, William Crow Proctor married Mary Catherine Morgan. They had a daughter Edith Caroline Proctor who married William H Ramsey. They had a daughter Clara Katherine Ramsey who married LC Yates. Those are my grandparents. Edith Caroline Proctor Ramsey is actually on a postcard. I am trying to trace the Cherokee Roots which is very hard. I would love to hear from anyone with more info to this line of family. Be glad to share everything I have. I am hoping to go to Hazel Creek soon.

1838 - Yes, date unknown, daughter of William Alexander Procter, is my GGGrandmother. Her real name is Jane Clark Procter Jones married to Theophilus Aloysious Jones. She is buried in Spring Grove Cemetery, in a separate plot from the rest of her family because both she and her husband committed suicide.
